We all know Selena Gomez is no stranger to an envy-worthy manicure. In fact, practically every time we see a new photo of the star, she’s giving us a new nail look to add to our moodboard. From a chunky Y2K French manicure to a “Bare Bombshell” look, chrome nails, “Glazed Fire,” and neon Jello nails, there is seriously no aesthetic left untried by the star. The latest? Her take on the deep, moody reds that have been trending all season long.
On November 27, Gomez’s go-to nail artist, Tom Bachik, posted a photo showing off the latest look he created for the star—calling her dark berry red nails a “cranberry manicure,” and we couldn’t think of a more fitting description.
The Rare Beauty founder showed off her new honey blonde highlights as well as the crimson nails on Bachik’s Instagram, where we got an up-close look at the manicure. Short in length and a natural-square shape, each of Gomez’s nails were the same ultra-glossy shade of red—not quite dark enough to be maroon but also not bright enough to be cherry red, the perfect in-between shade.

Red has been having quite the season in both beauty and fashion. After dominating runways at New York Fashion Week, it quickly became everyone’s new favorite color. In the blink of an eye, the shade took over dresses, scarves, shoes, lips, eyes, hair, and, increasingly, nails. Just this fall, cherry mocha, Boston University, Malaga Wine, and red chrome have all started trending, and took over the nails of everyone from Keke Palmer to Olivia Rodrigo and Megan Fox. Gomez herself has even given the aforementioned “Glazed Fire” red chrome nails a try.
Luckily for you, red nails like Gomez’s are easy to try out yourself if you want to get in on the action.
First, like any manicure, remove any lingering nail polish with nail polish remover. Afterward, cut and file your nails to the desired length before applying oil to soften and push back your cuticles. Once wiped clean of oil, buff the beds of your nails and add your favorite base coat.
After that, it’s time for color, and Bachik revealed the exact shade used on Gomez. He grabbed Après’s French Manicure Gel in the shade Pink Light District ($15); however, for a non-gel option, you can swap it for Essie’s Full Blast ($15).
With the color applied, all that’s left is a coat of your favorite top coat and a dollop of nail oil. Then, you will have the perfect holiday nails.
