Selena Gomez’s Bright New Highlights Just Sold Us on the Honey Blonde Trend

Selena Gomez has been experimenting with her hair and makeup more than ever lately. Though we know she has always loved a fun, out-of-the-box nail look, she tends to keep her glam and hairstyles on the classic side. However, recently, she’s dipped her toes into more adventurous looks, giving Moulin Rouge makeup a try, debuting a sharp lob, and playing with bold eyeshadow.

While in Paris over the weekend, Gomez kept this theme going while also trying out a brand-new hair color. Alongside a sparkly blue smoky eye, the Rare Beauty founder also debuted new chunky blonde highlights in her dark brown hair.

On November 26, the megastar posted a few selfies to her Instagram Story, showing off her new highlights. Also, posing for pictures in the new look for her hairstylist Philipp Verheyen’s Instagram, where we got an even more up-close look.

Her new hair was a similar length to what we are used to from Gomez—reaching all the way to her chest with an even, symmetrical length. Then, her roots were the same color as usual—a deep dark brown. But that’s when the similarities ended.

Starting a few inches from her roots, golden yellow highlights began trickling down through her mane. Though they were sparse and thin close to her roots, they got thicker and closer together towards the bottom of her hair—the ends of her hair were basically blonde save for a few chocolate strands. Her face was also framed with blonde money pieces on each side, which, alongside the rest of the look, were styled in loose waves.

The actor’s new look follows the trend of other celebrities switching to blonde hair over the past couple of weeks. Most recently, Beyoncé debuted an icy silver blonde, Keke Palmer went honey blonde, Rihanna tried a caramel blonde tone, and Kim Kardashian switched her signature black to a beige blonde.

Gomez paired her trendy new blonde strands with a gorgeous, copy-worthy smoky eye. Not your classic 2016 Urban Decay Naked palette smoky eye, this one had a tinge of blue and almost a retro-futuristic vibe.

Done by one of her go-to makeup artists, Avia Solomon, Gomez’s eyes were framed with long black eyelashes. Her lower waterline had a touch of white eyeliner that contrasted the deep gray eyeshadow under her eye. On her lid was a similar shade framing above her upper lashline, creating a stark contrast to the lighter gray on the rest of her lid. Then, as the makeup got closer to her outer corner, it deepened on top of a sharp, ashy gray cat eye that tied it all together.
